CITATION: Mr Nathan Moore
Leading Aircraftsman Nathan Moore RAAF made disclosures to military and civilian authorities about the existence of drug activities within Defence Force personnel at RAAF Base Amberley and the wider network of Defence establishments.
Particular to the case of Leading Aircraftsman Nathan Moore is the failure of professionals of substance to protect the service persons that they lead. The trouble with defence leaders in recent years appears not to be that they do not inspire their soldiers, sailors and airmen – Timor and the correction of the ‘Children overboard’ report demonstrate that inspiration.
The problem appears to be that our military leaders are not themselves inspired by the professionals that they lead. It was the Corporal on that border bridge, that Captain on that radio, and the Petty Officer on the boarding party that contributed mightily to the inspiration that we all received.
If our defence leaders were, in turn, inspired by the men and women who salute them, and who serve them with such credit, they would not leave them to fend for themselves with a broken system for military justice.
