CITATION: Alan Jones

The Award has been given to Alan Jones for the disclosures that he made, in public broadcasting, about the parlous state of the justice and judicial systems in Queensland.

In particular, his disclosures provided information forcing attention to the alleged politicisation of those systems as those systems may have been applied in the imprisonment of a leader of one of Australia’s political parties. The summaries and opinions that he provided brought much credibility to concerns expressed by others relating to the treatment received by many who have made disclosures of wrongdoing by Queensland Government authorities.

The Whistleblower’s Action Group Qld Inc has its own concerns that the justice system in Queensland may now be so comprehensively ‘captured’ by its political masters that it is unable to reform itself. The view held by the Group is that influence and authority from outside of Queensland is needed if reform of the Queensland system is to be achieved.

Alan Jones' broadcasts and televised opinions demonstrated the significant reforms that can be won if support can be gained from national and international sources.

His actions thus come within the Group’s definition of outstanding support to whistleblowers.
