CITATION: Julie Gilbert

Julie Gilbert received this award for the disclosures that she made which drew attention to the practices of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In particular, her disclosures provided information showing that the DPP may be capable of bad practice and improper influences regarding its assessments of and decision-making on proposals to prosecute select persons within its jurisdiction.

The Whistleblowers Action Group Qld Inc has its own concerns that the DPP may have acted improperly regarding other decisions not to prosecute colleagues of the government of the day. A principal example of the Group’s concerns also involves the abuse and violation of children in the care of those colleagues.

Julie's actions thus come within the Group’s definition of outstanding support to whistleblowers.

Her actions are seen to be meritorious because of the courage and integrity shown in circumstances where the subject matter of the disclosures might readily have brought unease and unsought attention to her personally and to her family.
